Setting:

Setting refers to location, layout and décor of a scene. Décor = lights, sofa, wallpaper.

Props:

Short for property, refers to anything that can be moved by actors

Costume and makeup:

Costumes are the clothes worn by actors that reveal information about their character. We can find out their age, personality, sexuality, and job by their costume.

Lighting:

Can be broken down from natural light (the sun) or artificial light (light bulbs, screen) also can be used to convey the mood of a scene. Dark for spooky or danger, bright for happy and cheer.

 

Camerawork

  • Framing
  • Focus
  • Shots

 

Shots:

Established shot, extreme close up, close up, mid shot, long shot, wide shot, two shot, point of view, over the shoulder shot.

Angles:

High = camera looks down at the character or subject, low = camera looks up at character or subject,

Eye level = eye level to actor.

Movements:

Pan = fixed position turns only left to right, Tilt = fixed position goes only up and down, Track = the camera travels along tracks and moves along parallel to the action, handheld= steady hand held, zoom/reverse zoom = gives the illusion of moving.

Denotation = what we see precisely and physically.

Connotation = Rose connotes, love and passion.
