Season one, Episode one.
Prison break notes
It falls
under the sector of Moving Image. It’s
cross genre, the theme is blended. It goes from crime to dramatic. The
dramatic side takes over where as in the beginning the scene is set in a
flashback of a concurrent bank
robbery witch falls under crime. We witness drama quite rapidly as the
storyline is played.
Starts off
with a character getting tattooed
and his first tattoo and its quite large – this suggests violence
Bank robber
few minutes in, demanding for volt to be opened.
Stated he
doesn’t have a single violent bone in his body but yet his eager to enter
prison almost purposely.
7 minutes in,
someone got stabbed in jail, he seems to have a bad reaction or it’s impacting
him.
Finds his
brother in prison, try’s to reach him for contact however it’s been made clear
to him there’s no way because he is on death row waiting for his final 24
hours.
Michal
promises to get his brother out.
Flashbacks throughout the first episode, on how
he planned on how to break his brother out of prison.
Flash-forward is used at the end. In regards to the
tattoo on his body and how it’s a blueprint of the prison. It’s representing
the routes, tunnels, and walls he needs to successfully break through to exit
the prison. The flash forward is synced with the audio in rapid movements to
justify the extreme lengths Michael must go through soon.
Chronology varies as its well set in order
from, Planning, to entering prison, to commencing his plan to then breaking
out.
Time and space is set in a prison, and in the last
month before his brother is due for his death sentence. Confined in his cell
Michael brings his plan alive.
Camera – the way it’s filmed is highly
professional. Close shots, jump cuts, tilt, pan and many more camerawork is
used to film this series.
Subjective & objective: In the first season. It truly is
based on feelings. As Michael Scofield commits a crime
(discharging a firearm at a bank) just to enter prison to break his brother
Lincoln Burrows out as he is sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit.
Michael ask his brother Lincoln “promise me you didn’t do it “– “I promise
“once he gets that confirmation, Michael goes ahead with his plan. From the
close up shots of Michael, it’s clearly visible he has greater feelings towards his brother than
one would think.
Role for producer: Plan the
breakout but doesn’t make it obvious enough to feed the viewers. It’s almost
considered a cliff-hanger as we sort of get an image of what’s going to happen
but then the storyline changes. This is constantly seen throughout. This keeps
us attracted and wanting more.
