Evaluation
We intended to persuade audiences with an advertisement, that when in distress, sometimes it’s best to take a break and grab a bite to eat. So we’ve done just that. We use humour that is found in everyday scenarios, this eliminates the serious side as really and truly, it’s chicken. We achieved our overall goal however we faced barriers. One of which was personal ‘Broke my foot’ fortunately i was able to begin filming and i filmed the first half of the advertisement ( office scenes ) after speaking with Chris Price we was authorised to use his office as our filming location.
Our purpose was to grab the audience's attention and create brand awareness to the company we advertised on behalf of. By creating a scene where one is seen in stress and trapped behind four walls and a computer this allowed us to really bring across our point. In terms of purpose, it’s simply to inform audiences Tennessee Chicken is a great stress relief. In return, they gain more consumers.
Throughout our production stages we altered and enhanced our original ideas in order to keep up with the timing and scheduling. Furthermore we had to make one great change to our campaign which could have jeopardized our entire advertisement. We couldn’t get permission to film in McDonald’s premises meaning we had to find an alternative last minute. So we was able to negotiate with a fellow high street fast food joint and they had accepted and granted us to film in their property.
Instead of using continuous close ups, we chose to film in a way where there would be many different shots from all angles, close ups, mid shots, first person and even the use of slow motion. We had experimented with our capabilities to shoot certain shots and identify whether we could pull them of. Unfortunately our outcomes weren’t always positive. For example when we attempted to get a close up behind our actors head in a tilted position to get a shot of off the phone ringing whilst he was busy away typing up his emails we came across a barrier, the wall. One of the better shots was our shot reverse shot, this scene was filmed on the property where our actor was seen having a conversation with the shop server.
Being able to work in a group of two along with an external actor was a great idea, worked really well, we was able to communicate effectively when needed, propose changes and new ideas without the disruption of on-going work or offending one another. We used whatsapp to send and receive messages and images. One downside was our shot sheet. I proposed upon each shot we write and store the particular type of shot we had used so we can then use that information in our evaluation. Unfortunately somewhere down the lines we had lost it.
Our feedback consisted of great comments. I was pleased with what had been said. For example the slow motion was identified, and also our purpose was very clear and understandable. This reassured me that our work as a team had pulled through as the main factor was that the reason for the advertisement (purpose) was clear. Personally i believe we did our utmost to create this piece of work whilst following our checklists.
There was one frequent area of improvement. Timing, with my absence after having a motoring accident, it had really set things of pace. More specifically i wasn’t able to perform in the ending much as i was recovering. We came to a conclusion that my co partner would go ahead with the filing alongside our actor and continue with me then analysing what had been done to keep the group up to date and everyone on the same page.
A detailed and well written evaluation in which you've been very clear about choices made, editing techniques and group work. You also discuss the feedback given. Your pre-production work is equally strong. This was a successful project for you with an effective advert produced. Well done! V
